The Mama Tea Story: How Motherhood Changed Everything

Yana Pavlova March 24, 2026 5 min read

When I became a mother, I did not just gain a child. I lost and found myself at the same time. My body changed. My sleep disappeared. My identity, the one I had spent decades building, suddenly did not fit anymore. I was someone new, and I had no map for who that person was.

I was not prepared for how physical that disorientation would be. How tired I would be in a way that sleep alone could not fix. How deeply I would search, in those early weeks, for something that felt like care. Not medical care. Something more like tenderness.

The Tea That Nobody Made for Me

In those early postpartum weeks, I searched for teas that could support what I was going through. Teas for recovery. For breastfeeding. For the emotional rollercoaster that nobody properly prepares you for.

What I found was disappointing. Clinical packaging. Medical language. Products that treated motherhood like a condition to be managed, not a transformation to be honoured.

I wanted something beautiful. Something that said: this is sacred, what you are going through. Something that felt like care, not a prescription.

So I created it.

"I wanted something that felt like care, not a prescription. Something that honoured the transformation, not just managed the symptoms."

Four Blends, Four Chapters

Each Mama Tea blend was born from a real chapter of my motherhood journey. Not from a product development brief or a market gap analysis. From lived experience.

Mother's Recovery (Inner Healing) — For the weeks after birth when your body needs deep nourishment. Raspberry leaf, nettle, calendula, rosemary, and rosehip. Every ingredient chosen because I needed it myself. Raspberry leaf for uterine recovery. Nettle because I was exhausted and depleted. Calendula because it felt gentle and golden and healing.

Calm and Balance — For the emotional overwhelm. The nights that felt endless. The moments when I needed to exhale and had nowhere to do it. Chamomile, lavender, lemon balm, orange peel, and rosehip. Each herb a small act of care for a nervous system that was working overtime.

Nurture and Nourish (Breastfeeding) — For the 3am feeds. The tender, exhausting, irreplaceable bond of nursing. The mother who gives everything and needs something that gives back. Nettle, alfalfa, marshmallow root, blessed thistle, lemon balm, lavender, and cornflower. Herbs trusted by mothers and midwives for generations.

Soothe and Restore — For the body's healing. A rinse and steam blend honouring the ancient practice of postpartum body care. Yarrow, calendula, lavender, chamomile, and motherwort. An act of tenderness for a body that has done something extraordinary.

Why Packaging and Beauty Matter

When you are a new mother, you spend a great deal of time in functional spaces. Clinical spaces. The postnatal ward. The baby clinic. The pharmacy. Everything around you is designed for efficiency, not for beauty.

One of the things I most wanted to create with the Mama Tea line was something that interrupted that visual landscape. Something beautiful enough to sit on your bedside table and make you feel, just by looking at it, that someone had thought about what you might need. That someone had considered not just the ingredients but the feeling of being seen.

Because that is what so many mothers in those early months are quietly longing for: to be seen. Not as a new function, a feeding machine or a nap schedule, but as a woman in the middle of something enormous.

"What so many mothers are quietly longing for is to be seen. Not as a function, but as a woman in the middle of something enormous."

A Note on What Tea Can and Cannot Do

I want to be clear about something. Tea is not medicine. The Mama Tea blends may support your wellbeing during pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and breastfeeding, but they are not a treatment for any medical condition. If you have specific health concerns, please consult your midwife, doctor, or healthcare provider before introducing herbal teas, particularly during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

What tea can do is create a moment. A ritual of self-care in a season where your own needs often come last. It can offer warmth when you are cold and exhausted at 3am. It can offer beauty in the middle of chaos. It can tell your body, in the language of scent and warmth and nourishment, that you deserve to be looked after too.

That, I believe, is not nothing. That is actually everything.

The Mama Tea collection was made with love, from my experience, for yours.

Frequently Asked

Questions

Is Mama Tea safe to drink during pregnancy?

Some herbs that are safe for general use are not recommended during pregnancy. Please always consult your midwife or doctor before introducing any herbal tea during pregnancy. Each Mama Tea blend has specific guidance on its product page, and we recommend reviewing this carefully with your healthcare provider.

Which Mama Tea blend is best for postpartum recovery?

The Inner Healing blend was specifically created for the postpartum period. It contains raspberry leaf, nettle, calendula, rosemary, and rosehip, herbs traditionally used to support uterine recovery, replenish minerals, and restore energy in the weeks after birth.

Can Mama Tea help with breastfeeding?

The Breastfeeding blend contains galactagogue herbs including blessed thistle, nettle, and alfalfa, which are traditionally associated with supporting healthy milk production. These herbs have been used by nursing mothers and herbalists for generations. Results vary between individuals, and we recommend drinking it as part of a broader approach to breastfeeding support.

How is Mama Tea different from other postnatal teas?

Most postnatal teas are designed and packaged for the functional market, clinical, minimal, focused purely on ingredients. Mama Tea was created by a mother who felt that postpartum deserved something more than that. The blends are crafted with care, the packaging is designed to be beautiful, and every ingredient choice is rooted in personal experience as well as herbal tradition.
